The cruiser sustained front-end damage in the crash and its airbag deployed. The second vehicle landed on its side.
The officer, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. The driver of the other vehicle refused medics and was not taken to a hospital.
The Dayton Police Department posted on social media that West Third Street is shut down from North Trenton Street to North Upland Avenue.
The police department’s Traffic Services Unit is investigating the crash.
